Winter is still in full swing for most of the country, and while we are not quite ready yet to hit the fields, now is the perfect time to think ahead to the upcoming busy hay season. Using this downtime will help you beat the rush for any equipment needs, whether you need something new or just need some routine maintenance.

“Now is the time to be thinking about your hay equipment, get it out, and check it over,” said Dave Palmer, Kubota senior product manager for implements. “For some, like producers in Florida, cutting is already underway, but for most, you have the luxury of taking this time to prepare for busy Spring baling in late March and early April.”

Dave’s number one piece of advice: Be early and proactive to ensure your equipment is ready and primed to get through the first cuttings of the season.

If you’re more of a ‘do-it-yourselfer,’ start by checking your PTO, gearbox oil, bearings, belts and chains to see what needs replacing. When checking your gearbox oil, a good rule of thumb is to also check hydraulics, coolant, brake and battery fluids to determine if you need a top off or need to replace it altogether.

Next to your tractor, your round baler is a critical part of your Spring line up. While your tractor needs its oil and filters changed at least once a year, Kubota recommends changing the gearbox oil on your baler every few years or 5,000 bales, whichever comes first. Please check your operating manual for guidance on your specific equipment and model number.

If you’re in need of some help, now is a good time to contact your local Kubota dealer. In fact, through May 31, your dealer can help you take advantage of Kubota’s 12-point baler inspection, a free check-in for your baler within the first two years of its purchase.

Kubota has built a brand trusted for offering durable, quality-built equipment, and for listening to our customers’ needs – from the day we design a new product, to the day we deliver it and beyond. That is why the company offers a two-year standard limited warranty on new hay equipment. “It’s a testament to our commitment to providing solutions for our customers and our dealers as we grow together,” said Dave.

With the right partner by your side and the right maintenance plan, there will be no greater feeling than rolling out your first, perfect, hassle-free bale of the season. Here’s to a safe and productive season ahead!
